If you’ve lived in Texas for more than a few months, you know the sound. It starts with the sirens, followed by that low rumble of wind, and then the deafening crack of thunder and lightning followed by the sound of hail hitting the roof. In many of our small West Texas towns, the local church isn't just a place of worship. It’s the designated safety shelter when the high plains decide to unleash a spring monster.
But what happens when the shelter itself gets beat up?
Our friend JT, a church administrator in Lubbock, recently lived through this nightmare. A vicious storm tore through the Panhandle. While the congregation was safe, the church’s roof wasn't so lucky. Damage to the roof caused water to pour into the sanctuary. This turned the storm from just a simple property damage claim into a full-blown emergency. The problem wasn’t just a leaky ceiling. As the water poured in, it wrecked the church’s sound system and high-end equipment.
As JT stood in a damp sanctuary, he was haunted by one urgent, stressful question. Is any of this actually covered by our church insurance policy?
Watching JT navigate the maze of claims and policy language made one thing crystal clear. Understanding the specific extra coverages in your policy is the difference between a minor setback and a catastrophic loss. Faithful stewardship isn't just about paying a monthly insurance premium. It’s about knowing exactly what that premium buys for your church before the clouds turn gray.
This week, episodes 101 through 105 of the podcast look at what extra coverages a Texas church might need. We’re moving beyond the basics of covering buildings to looking at the specialized coverages that protect your technology, your people, and your ability to keep the doors open when disaster strikes.
