Faithful Stewardship Understands the Risks

As a minister in a small Texas town, Pastor Rick wore numerous hats. His responsibilities included everything from changing light bulbs to working with a local insurance agent to make sure his church was covered. In doing his due diligence, he ensured that the church was covered for the things that really mattered.

He had been there a couple of years and he and his family loved the community. Sunday mornings were simple but rich. Fellowship meals were potluck and sincere. The building wasn’t fancy, but there was no debt and it met their needs.

All of that changed abruptly one dark and stormy night in March.

A tornado tore through the West Texas town just after midnight. It only lasted minutes, but by the time the winds died down, the church was decimated. Rick, who lived in the parsonage across the street from the church, had plucked his young son out of his bed just before the window shattered across the bedroom.

Standing in the parking lot, Rick surveyed the ruins: shattered glass, severe structural damage, and water everywhere. Thankfully his family and congregation had made it through safely, but their church home was destroyed.  Remarkably, Rick faced the damage assessment that night and the next day with peace and calm.

Across our podcast episodes this week, we dove into multiple topics centered on how to thoroughly evaluate and comprehend the various risks facing your church.
