Liquor Liability Protects Your Tailgate, Not The Drunk

As we are approaching July 4th, that means we're less than 100 days to the start of football season in Texas. If you've been here very long, or even just a few days really, you know that there are two seasons in Texas...Football and Pre-Season Football. One thing that Texans love to do is celebrate football with BBQ and tailgates. College tailgating has taken on a life of it's own on most campuses. They even get boats involved in Waco. One of the ingredients for a successful tailgate is beer and other fine beverages so that you can be sure and tell the opposing team and officials exactly what you think of them. The downside to this, is that it can cause problems for you later. The good news is that Insurance For Texans can help!

Most tailgaters are great hosts and provide both food and beverage to visitors and friends. Since BBQ is king here in Texas, you see a lot of it being served. And what goes better with some brisket and ribs than an ice cold beer? Seems harmless enough. And it is until it's not. As people reach back into your cooler or pour another round from the makeshift bar you have set up, they are serving themselves. As that continues, even after the game, people can become intoxicated and heaven forbid that they get behind the wheel of a car. But you're not responsible for them, right? They were serving themselves. If the unthinkable happens and they proceed to create a major accident where someone is severely injured or even killed, what happens? While we aren't lawyers, we have seen enough law suits to know that defending the suit is going to cost you.

This is where Insurance For Texans can help you out. First and foremost, we implore people to not let an intoxicated person get behind the wheel of a car. But on the off-chance that someone does, it makes sense to have a very inexpensive general liability policy that includes liquor liability on it. The general liability portion of the policy will cover many potential hiccups that can occur with your tailgating space. If you're in a paid for spot on campus and have access to electricity or cable connections, it can cover damages if it is proved you were negligent.

The liquor liability portion of the policy is the focus for us in this post though. It is possible for that intoxicated individual to get behind the wheel of the car and do harm. Good Personal Injury attorneys will dig to find the source of the alcohol that is served to that individual. That could potentially be traced back to your tailgate. This is where you don't want to be. How do you defend yourself and your personal assets that you've worked so hard to obtain? The policy we can help provide allows for you to have $1,000,000 at minimum to make sure that a litigating party can be made whole. It also comes with representation by an attorney so that you don't have to worry about finding one, much less how to protect yourself and your assets in that scenario.

Food, beverages, and supplies for a tailgate can run well into the hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over a six to eight home date season. One pesky kid can put everything at risk. Having a policy through Insurance For Texans can go a long way to making sure that your assets are protected from loss. Sometimes, the best offense is a great defense. Even in Big 12 country.
