Tim’s small church in Lubbock had just lost a key employee and the reason hit hard. As the elder overseeing finances, Tim felt a deep responsibility when the departing staff member shared that the lack of health insurance was a major factor in leaving.

He’d known this day might come. Like many small churches across Texas, they simply couldn’t afford a traditional group health plan. Their small staff of three people loved serving their congregation, but rising medical costs and limited options were becoming impossible to ignore.

The truth is, most Texans expect some form of health coverage as part of their employment. And while the ACA Marketplace plans offered a temporary fix, they left Tim’s team with high premiums, limited networks, and plenty of frustration.

Still, Tim wasn’t ready to give up. He was determined to find a solution. Something that would honor the church’s commitment to care for its people without breaking the budget. That search led him to explore new, creative health insurance options designed specifically for small churches like his.

And that’s what this week’s podcast episodes are all about, which are real, practical health coverage solutions for Texas churches that want to do the right thing for their staff, even when resources are limited.

From health sharing ministries and catastrophic health insurance to supplemental coverage and strategic stewardship, this week’s series helps church leaders like Tim discover ways to balance compassion with financial wisdom.
