Faithful Stewardship Understands the Details of Running a Church

Bob thought they had done everything right.

His church in East Dallas wasn’t large, but it was active, growing, and stretched thin like most ministries are. When they hired a youth minister, the fit looked perfect. Great references. Strong personality. Willing to work within a tight budget. Within weeks, the youth group was growing, families were noticing, and Sundays felt full of momentum. From the outside, it looked like a win.

Then the cracks started to show. One weekday, the youth minister didn’t show up. No calls returned. No texts. Emails untouched. When he resurfaced days later, his explanation didn’t sit right. Bob couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. A simple background check—something they had skipped to save time and money—revealed arrest records tied to drug distribution. And not just once, but several times. What felt like a small administrative shortcut had quietly turned into a serious leadership failure.

Week 12 of the podcast is about moments like this. This week, our focus is on understanding the details of what it takes to run a successful church operation. From human resources to health and life insurance, we will help you to understand what is necessary to keep your church humming.
