Lone Star Sticker Shock: Some Costs Are Bigger In Texas

    They're Coming To Texas

We may call our state the Lone Star State, but we are definitely not alone in wanting to bask in the advantaes. The great State of Texas continues to grow at an alarming rate. A Texas Relocation Report in the last decade showed Texas landed at #2 (behind Florida) with vast numbers of people moving to Texas from out of state. Large flocks of Californians, Floridians, Oklahomans, New Yorkers, Louisianans, and Illinoisans are leaving their states and calling Texas "home".

The population of people moving here has sky-rocketed in recent years: around 3 million from mid-2015 to 2020. And that number only reflects those who moved within the US! We also saw 1 million new residents come into Texas through immigration or relocation overseas - which means about 13% percent growth just since 2010...not bad for such a short period!

Yes, our BBQ is that good and we’ll stack our tacos up against anyone (we’re looking at you, California). Available jobs, low taxes, cheaper cost of living (for now), affordable homes (somewhat), and an array of big cities to choose from don’t hurt either.

However, one thing those crossing into the Lone Star state may take for granted is the cost of homeowners insurance. Texas is more expensive than average. More claims, expensive repairs, and catastrophe models all play a role in making our great state bigger not just in size and steaks, but also in the premiums homeowners pay.

So when out-of-towners become Texans, they may feel a little bit lighter in the wallet, but one thing is for sure . . . there’s always some good BBQ right around the corner.
