True Texas Church Insurance
Churches Are The Lifeblood Of Texas
There are approximately 33,000 churches in the state of Texas. I don't think anyone is surprised by that number. At least not anyone paying attention.
If you remove the major metro areas like Houston, San Antonio, and DFW, there are still more than 20,000 scattered across the state.
The mega-churches may get the headlines, but the reality is that most churches in Texas are smaller communities of faith that make Texas a beautiful place to call home.
While Texas Churches are the lifeblood of the place we call home, the process of running a church is becoming more difficult with each passing day.
There are plenty of churches thriving in their service, but the financial reality has become tougher in our post-COVID world.
Outside of those 200'ish mega-churches, it is not uncommon for attendance to be stagnant, giving to be down, and expenses to be up.
The inflation battle has hit our Texas churches exceptionally hard. This can be felt acutely in the price of insurance coverage as buildings and congregations age.
The cost of insurance for churches in the rural towns has skyrocketed to levels that have forced pastors, deacons, elders, and other church leaders to make hard decisions they never considered possible.
If you have felt this, you are not alone. It is keeping many Texans up at night wondering what they will do with the next hail storm or other problem.
I would love to tell you that there is a magic bullet to take care of it, but that wouldn't keep me inline with the Ten Commandments.
So what can a normal church like your's do to unlock this financial riddle? I'm glad you asked!
Unlocking The Church Insurance Riddle
First, let me give some Texas church insurance history to set the scene. Let's rewind a few years.
Prior to 2020, the property insurance market in Texas was seeing price increases, but it was largely manageable. There were several church insurance providers that were willing and able to take on risk providing coverage to churches large and small.
The hefty inflation that was experienced by all of us through 2020 and over the immediate years after did a number on the cost of insurance. Many of the church insurance companies started to adapt, but one of the largest did not.
In late 2023, an insurance company that rhymes with Church Unsuitable announced that they were leaving Texas altogether. You see, they had not raised their premium prices along with the other church insurance companies as inflation began to increase at unprecedented levels.
When they began this process in 2024, an estimated 30% of the 33,000 churches in Texas found themselves without insurance coverage. This was a problem. For everyone.

Having 10,000 churches in Texas looking for insurance coverage all at once made all of the other companies nervous. And since those premiums had not been raised, the sticker shock for the churches looking was more than expected.
This left churches all across Texas between a rock and a hard place.
That's Great, But What About Right Now?
Over the last 18 months, Texas churches have tried to turn over every rock possible to secure affordable coverage. We've spoken with close to 1,000 of them personally.
The harsh reality is that many churches have only carried liability insurance as the cost of property coverage has been too high.
The problem is that leaves your church exposed to hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars of risk if a storm hits.
We are constantly asked, is there anything that we can do to close this gap? The answer is YES!
There are new church insurance programs that are aimed at helping your church.
While this message isn't The Good News that we love, it is important for you to understand that it can get better.
